Ringing for England

Recently received by your secretary - I should probably filter out some of these but it looks quite fun!!!

                                    Dear Geoff,
I would like to present Eden Valley CC with a challenge:

Ringing for England is in its 5th year and is a campaign to unite all the bells of all the churches to ring out right across the country to celebrate England’s Patron Saint. Abbeys, Castles, Cathedrals, Minsters and churches are going to do just that.  To broaden the concept other forms of bells are being encouraged to join in and this of course includes the bells on bikes.

The CHALLENGE-
St. George’s Day, this year is Thursday April 23rd  and CARLISLE Cathedral is joining in the campaign Ringing for England by ringing out either at 12 o’clock or 6 in the evening.  It would be fantastic if all the riders of the club could gather together at the cathedral flying the St. George’s flag and ringing their bells in unison with the great bells of the cathedral.  What a brilliant sound that would make. This campaign has nothing to do with politics, is not necessarily religious focused. It is just about helping anyone who feels English to go out and have a great time celebrating St. George uniting the whole nation in the act of ringing .
If you would like any further information please contact me and see our web site www.ringingforengland.co.uk, our twitter @englandringing and facebook ringingforengland.

Would be great to hear from you,
Libby

  1. I'm not sure that cyclists would be welcome in the cathedral!

  2. I agree - as there is a ban on cycling in the cathedral grounds - where would we gather?

  3. How many of us have bells?
